From the Service Desk:
What is the number one question we hear? Why did I get this virus? Our network specialist, Jason Combs-Edwards, says the best defense against viruses and malware is Y-O-U.
Of course you should invest in a great virus and malware protection product and keep that product up-to-date.
But protection software and hardware can only do so much. #1 threat is clicking on links contained in email, or opening attachments that you were not expecting. #2 is responding to a message "Your Computer is Infected" with an offer of "Click Here" to solve the problem. Chances are, your computer will become infected and you may also compromise your credit card if a payment was requested for the 'cure'. #3 is downloading 'free' software which comes along with malware (and, you agreed to the terms of the download). #4 is social engineering (phishing). No reputable company/bank will ask you to confirm your login information through an email. Microsoft does not send patches out in email.
Jason advises YOU to be careful! Think before you click! If you find yourself with unwanted bugs on your computer, Jason and the rest of our Service Team is ready to exterminate them!
